Orca Watching - Viewing Times

Johnstone Strait is a narrow stretch of Ocean within British Columbia's Inside Passage between the mainland British Columbia and Vanvouver Island. This area offers a beautiful wilderness setting and some of the best Orca viewing in the world.

Approximately 200 resident Orcas (Killer whales) frequently visit the area every year to feed on salmon. Quiet often Transient Orcas, hunting large marine mammals can be spotted as well.

The best time for Orca viewing ranges from the beginning of July until the beginning of September. Earlier sightings are possible but not as likely. Later in September the weather becomes less predictable with higher chances of rain, wind and cooler temperatures.
